Siemens was actually founded in the UK by Sir William Siemens in 1843 some 2 years before his brother opened a company with the same name in Germany. The company has always been seen as innovative and at the forefront of electrical design and development. For example they were the first company to install electric street lighting in a town called Godalming in Surrey, the first company to develop and install an electric public railway on the sea front at Brighton and the first company to lay the first cable link from the UK to the USA.
